Interactive Rubric for Written Communication: 7.1. Spelling

This guide will help you understand common conventions of academic writing and the application of marking rubrics

MECHANICS

Definition (formal)

Spelling describes the conventional order of letters that identifies a particular word.

Definition (informal)

Spelling: Do you have the right letters in the right order?

Example

For example, the following sentence contains a spelling mistake that would not be recognised by a spell-checker because it is a homonym (a word that sounds similar but may spelled differently). The correct form should be passed.

This particular trait is past between successive generations.
