How to get the most out of your subject readings at JCU

What is Readings?

Readings helps lecturers create and maintain reading lists for students and automatically ensures that items digitised for student access are copyright compliant.

Students can find reading lists by logging in to My Courses in LearnJCU or by searching Readings for subject code, subject name or lecturer's name.

This means:

  • Easy access to subject-specific resources all in one place
  • The option to annotate and organise resource lists to help you make the most of your study time

Benefits to Readings for staff and students

  • Readings software streamlines what has been a complex process; in the one system academic staff can create and manage lists, check for updated editions, request digitisations and submit purchase requests.
  • Academic staff can bookmark potential readings in library collections and other online sources.
  • Academic staff can create more than one list for each subject, can arrange lists into sections, and mark readings as required or additional.
  • Academic staff can monitor students’ engagement with page views and usage analytics.
  • Scanned teaching materials must be made available from the University’s digital readings repository in accordance with University policy, ensuring compliance with the Copyright Act 1968. The digitisation tool enables staff to check compliance easily. • Readings is compatible with referencing import/export tools including Endnote. • Students will have a current curated list with direct access to digital resources, with availability information for library collection resources.
  • Students can mark their reading intentions and add personal notes.
  • A reading list can be viewed in the chosen referencing style as a bibliography.
  • Many Universities across Australia and globally use Talis Aspire software to digitally curate their readings.
