About This Module

This module begins by laying out the anatomy of the kidneys, and then looks at how the kidneys produce urine and how urine composition (including volume, electrolytes, acids etc.) and volume is changed to meet the needs of the body. Excretion of urine are fluid balance are discussed. Following discussion of the renal system, the blood system is introduced. This part of the module looks at the components of blood and the functions of these components, focussing on gas transport, haemostasis, blood typing and immune functions.

Interactive Physiology

The “Urinary System: Glomerular Filtration” and “Urinary System: Water Homeostasis” sections of Interactive are good tutorials for part of this module.

Mastering Anatomy and Physiology

Assignment 5 (Renal Physiology) in MasteringA&P reviews some of the important learning objectives of the study of renal anatomy and physiology. Log in to MasteringA&P and complete this assignment.

Assignment 6 (Blood and Lymphatics) in MasteringA&P reviews some of the important learning objectives of the study of blood and lymphatics. Log in to MasteringA&P and complete this assignment.

The MyA&P activities for Chapter 17 will help you work through the important "blood" concepts.  The Art Labelling Quiz (questions 1, 2 and 5) will be helpful.  The Matching Quiz is also a good one to complete; note that questions 5 and 7 are not core content for this subject.

The section on "Immunity" includes some difficult concepts. You may like to investigate the activities in Chapter 21, in particular, the multipli-choice quiz should be a good learning experience (and very good practise for the exam).

LearnJCU

For each of the renal lecture of this module there are short answer and multiple choice questions in LearnJCU. Make sure you complete these learning activities – usually a few of these questions will appear on the end of semester exam!

There are short answer and multiple choice questions in LearnJCU reviewing some of the important concepts covered in the blood and lymphatics lectures.
