This module starts with a breakdown of the types and organisation of muscle tissue. This is followed by a look at how muscle is controlled by the nervous system and how muscle contracts and relaxes. A section on muscle metabolism follows.
Assignment 4 (Muscle Physiology) in MasteringA&P reviews some of the important learning objectives of this module. Log in to MasteringA&P and complete this assignment.
The “Muscular System: The Neuromuscular Junction” and “Muscular System: Sliding Filament Theory” sections of Interactive Physiology are good tutorials for part of this module. You should also work through the tutor activities, and review activities.
