SS1010: Australian People: Indigeneity & Multiculturalism: Writing

Writing

Ok now our essay is really starting to take shape, we have

Considered the essay question

Read the autobiography and identified themes that answers the essay question

Done further research and found resources that speak to this theme

And found appropriate social theory that supports our position

All the pieces of the puzzle are in place, now it is time to start writing! This is where you get to take a position, form and argument, and support it with evidence, but remember you are discussing a complex space occupied by real people.

It will require sensitivity and the use of respectful language, a good way to ensure this is to use the terms people use for themselves.

Including theory and concepts

Line drawing of Albert Einstein's faceSometimes it can be hard to imagine how to include theories and concepts you've researched and read about into your writing. Take a look at an example from a book studied in previous iteration of this unit called No Friend But the Mountains: Writing from Manus Prison by Behrouz Boochani, translated by Omid Tofighian.

Structuring your essay

Library and Information Services and The Learning Centre both have tons of resources to help you write in an academic style.

Here are just some of those resources:
