JCU Library Experience Procedures ALMA: Fulfilment

Placing a hold

Purpose: 

  • Creating hold requests. Patrons can also place requests through Primo.

Alma Role required

  • Circulation Desk Operator
  • Request Operator

Responsibility:

  • All Frontline staff

How to place a hold in ALMA for any item

  • Open ALMA
  • Location should be [Your campus]- Circulation desk
  • At the top select Physical titles and search by title or barcode

  • Locate the required resource
  • Click on the three dots (ellipsis)to the far right of the screen and a pop up will appear

  • Select Request
  • A new screen will open with a title of Create request
  • Request type = Patron physical item request

  • In the Requester section type or scan client details and they should appear underneath in a dropdown box
    • Select correct borrower (if Off Campus use Townsville/ Cairns Loans)
  • Put a note in the Note field eg. if it is an Off Campus loan with ticket number
  • Choose Pick Up location
  • Press Submit on the top right hand side

How to place a hold on a specific item

Useful if you require a particular volume or a specific copy.

  • Open ALMA
  • Location should be [Your campus]- Circulation desk
  • At the top select Physical Items (not Physical Title) and and search by title or barcode. This will give a list of each copy of the book held
  • Search for the required item
  • Check the Library, year and any other information to ensure that you have found the correct item.

  • Click on Request in the top right hand corner 
  • A new screen will open with a title of Create request
  • Request type = Patron physical item request

  • In the Requester section type or scan client details and they should appear underneath in a dropdown box
    • Select correct borrower (if Off Campus use Townsville/ Cairns Loans)
  • Add Note if required
  • Choose Pick Up location
  • Press Submit on the top right hand side
