Celebrating Townsville Exhibition - The Artists

JCU Alumni Networking and Exhibition Viewing

Held: Friday 22 July, 2016, at 6pm.
Location: Umbrella Studio contemporary arts, Flinders Street, Townsville

For this free event, alumni were invited to reconnect with old friends and network with new contacts. Short presentations were given by Mr John Chandler, Manager Alumni and External Engagement and Mrs Bronwyn McBurnie, JCU Special Collection Librarian.

Celebrating Townsville Exhibition Seminar

Held: Saturday 23 July, 2016, from 1- 5.30pm.
Location: Education Central,  Building 134, James Cook  University, Townsville Campus

Program included:

  • Official opening and welcome address by JCU Chancellor, Mr Bill Tweddell
  • Keynote address by Ms Angela Goddard, Director, Griffith Artworks, Griffith University Art Gallery and Griffith University Art Collection
  • “Celebrating Townsville” curator’s presentation by Ross Searle
  • Ten 4 minute presentations by JCU Visual Arts alumni members focussing on four creative outcomes in their lives
  • Tour of the Mabo Library

Celebrating Townsville Panel Discussion

Held: 24th July, 2016, 10.30 - 11.45am.
Location: Umbrella Studio contemporary arts, Flinders Street, Townsville

All members of the community were invited to join in a fun and informative morning discussion with a selection of artists from the “Celebrating Townsville” exhibition about “the things” that matter to them. We explored how the objects artists collect play a vital role in their creative work and lives in a discussion panel hosted by Dr. Jonathan McBurnie – Director, Umbrella Studio contemporary arts, and Bronwyn McBurnie - Special Collections Librarian at JCU Library.
