Law Guide: Books

Find targeted resources for legal research
Books are a great place to start when looking for resources on a legal topic. Your textbooks will be a wealth of knowledge for your particular subject. We have access to law books both in print and online at JCU Library.

Finding print books

The JCU law collections are located in Townsville at the eastern end of the first floor of the Mabo Library; in Cairns on the second floor of the Library building.

In the law collections you can find primary sources such as selected case law reports, as well as selected legislation and bills. You can also find secondary sources such as books and textbooks related to law.

How do I find print law books?

JCU One Search operates as a library catalogue, this means you can search for textbooks and other law resources which are available in the Townsville and Cairns collection.

All you need to do is type your selected keywords into the search box, then on the results page refine your results on the left-hand side to "held in the library". From there, note the call number and location to find the book on the shelf.

Finding electronic books

JCU Library will purchase e-versions of books where available. You can access these books using JCU One Search by searching for the title and refining your results on the left-hand side by: Available online.

How do I find electronic books?

Most of our electronic law books are available on the Proquest Ebook Central platform. Some electronic books may only have 1 or 3 online copies available. If all these copies are in use, you will need to check back at a later time.
