Scholarship of Teaching and Learning is "concerned with gaining new or improved understanding, appreciation and insights into a field of knowledge, and engaging with and keeping up to date with advances in the field. This includes advances in ways of teaching and learning in the field and advances in professional practice, as well as advances in disciplinary knowledge through original research" (TEQSA, 2018).
You may see the term Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) in most literature and resources. At JCU we prioritise the student experience. Consequently, we use the term Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SoLT). SoLT and SoTL are referring to the same thing.
SoTL research and practice should be a "methodologically sound" "inquiry into student learning" that is "grounded in context" and "conducted in partnership with students" which is made "appropriately public" (Felton, 2013).
Are you thinking about ideas for a SoLT project? Here are some ideas about good teaching practices.
