What is a standard?

"A standard is a published document which sets out specifications and procedures designed to ensure that a material, product, method or service is fit for its purpose and consistently performs in the way it was intended." (Standards Australia).

Standards documents include:

  • Australian Standards
  • International Standards and Joint Standards
  • Codes
  • Specifications
  • Handbooks
  • Guidelines

Australian standards

There is a concurrent limit of two users for SAI Global (Standards Australia). If you cannot access the service, it may be because the maximum number of users are already accessing it and you will need to try again later. Please log out as soon as you have finished searching for your standards.

You can view the standard online within the SAI Global platform using the built-in View Online feature (see tutorial below).

You can download a PDF, however, please note that SAI Global uses DRM protected PDF files. You will need to use a supported PDF reader.

You can access from the Databases page (look under Standards Australia), or follow this link:

If you are going to be a frequent user of Standards Australia, we recommend looking at the articles in the User Guide, which is only available once you have logged in to SAI Global from our database link. Only logged-in users can read the User Guide.

This video tutorial covers the Read Online feature:
