PhAST Track Anatomy and Physiology Module: Start Here

PC1001

Our study of human anatomy and physiology in PC1001 is divided into 4 modules:

  1. Cells, Tissues and Communication
  2. Nervous System Anatomy and Physiology
  3. Muscle Anatomy and Physiology
  4. Blood and Renal Anatomy and Physiology

You will note that these modules make up four of the tabs of this Library Guide.

Teaching Staff

Each of the anatomy and physiology modules contains information about the topics included in the module, the lecturer delivering the material and the learning objectives for the module. Direction to important learning activities and hints for success may also be included.

Warning!

Keeping up to date with your study and completing these learning activities may increase your enjoyment of learning anatomy and physiology and your academic achievement in this subject.

Welcome!

Welcome to PC1001 Human Anatomy and Physiology 1 for Pharmacy.

Anatomy is the study of the structure of body parts and their relationships to one another. The goal of human anatomy is to understand the form of our body and how it relates to our functions.

Physiology is the study of the function of the body; how the body parts work and carry out their activities that keep us alive. The goal of human physiology is to explain the mechanisms of the human body, including the gross and microscopic workings of things that sustain life.

We study anatomy and physiology together because the function always reflects the structure, and function gives meaning to the structure.

Learning Objectives

Learning objectives are statements that describe what the learner (YOU!) is expected to achieve. Looking at the learning objectives for each module can guide you on what you need to know, and how much detail you need to know. Reading through the leaning objectives as you start a module gives you an idea of where you want to be by the end of the module. After you have completed the learning activities for each module (including a review of your lectures, practicals and completing the prescribed readings), you should check through the list of learning objectives to make sure you have achieved the learning objectives.

Mastering Anatomy and Physiology

Mastering A&P is an online instructor-assigned homework system. It is designed to provide students with a variety of assessment to help you understand key topics and concepts. You can also explore MasteringA&P's Study Area which includes animations, the eText, and other study aids for targeted and efficient use of your valuable study time.

Go to www.masteringaandp.com and use the instructions in your student access code card (or at http://www.masteringsupport.com/videos/registration_tips/registration_tips.html ) to register. You will need your student number to do this.

Once you have registered, you will need to “enrol” in the MasteringA&P PC1001 course to access the assignments. The course code for PC1001 is: MAPPC10012013. You will be prompted to add this course code. "Assignments" will appear as one of the tabs on the Course Homepage - these are questions and animations that cover some of the key concepts covered in that module.  These "assignments" can be used to help you to learn and understand the material, and also for you to test your understanding of the material - they do not count towards your final grade.

From the course home page you can also access the “Study Area (MyA&P) tab.  This site has activities, puzzles, review questions, animations and more, for each of the chapters.  You can search for relevant activities by selecting the appropriate chapter (don't forget to hit "go"), or by first selecting the activities on the left column.

If you did not purchase the 2013 edition of Marieb and Hoehn from the JCU Bookstore, you will not have an access code for MasteringA&P.  You will still be able to access the MyA&P activities. At the beginning of your textbook you will find an "Improve Your Grade" page, which gives you instructions on how to register and log in for MyA&P.

Interactive Physiology

Interactive Physiology is a tutorial system contains in-depth, fully-narrated, animated tutorials and quizzes covering key physiological processes and concepts. To access Interactive Physiology, click on the “Study Area (MyA&P)” tab of MasteringA&P and then on “Interactive Physiology” on the left-side menu. You can then choose the section of Interactive Physiology that you wish to explore. Note: if you are studying in the library, it is advisable to use headphones to listen to the tutorials. Interactive physiology also contains review quizzes. These quizzes give you immediate feedback on your responses and are a great way of working out what you know (and what you need to work a little more on!).
