WS1006 Self in Professional Helping Guide: 1. Getting Started

This guide will help WS1006 students complete subject assessment tasks

What do you have to do?

The assignment task instructions tells you exactly what you have to do to complete an assignment. You could use different highlighters to identify important elements: For example:

  • Green to show that you are connecting to ideas of self relating to personal experience and professional practice
  • Yellow to show what you have to do for the assignment, e.g.critically reflect, identity, describe, understand, evaluate, plan and write
  • Blue to show where you need to provide insight on the academic content and skills you will usee.g. connecting experience to WS1006 concepts, subject readings, writing and referencing
  • Pink to show the boundary or limit of the assignment. You are only to reflect on one personal experience.

  • Using this experience as the starting point you then need to critically reflect on that experience in the light of your learning in the subject so far...
  • This will involve making connections between your own personal experience (and sense of self) and the ideas, concepts, theories, exercises, and literature used in the subject...

What are you being marked on?

Applying your highlighter to the marking rubric will also help you understand what you need to do to compete the assignment task and get the grade you want.
