Using One Search

Using the library's search tool, One Search, to find journal articles, books, book chapters and much, much more.

What is One Search?

One Search is the Library's search tool. It searches through our catalogue and our subscribed resources, and can also be used to search for material beyond the library collection.

Use One Search as a Guest

If you are not a JCU student or staff member, or you are not a member of the JCU Library, you can search One Search as a guest. You can use all of the search features, but you will not see options for requesting our electronic material and you will not be able to save your searches.

Sign in to One Search

If you are a JCU student or staff member, or a member of the JCU Library, you can sign in to access eResources, save your searches and view request options.

Click on Sign in in the top left hand corner of the One Search screen and sign in using your JCU username and password (for JCU students and staff) or your borrower number and password (for non-JCU and alumni Library members).

Your session will time out after 30 minutes of inactivity.

Searching with One Search

Use One Search to search for everything we hold (books, journal articles, videos, sound files, guides, tools...). For a more precise search within your subject area, consider a subject specific database recommended by your subject guide.

  • A Simple search (New Search) will allow you to search with any search terms and tweak your results to something more on-topic.
  • An Advanced search will help you control where in the record your search terms are found (for example, results with particular keywords written by a particular author).
  • Browse search (Browse By) will let you browse accross works that are similar to each other in some way (authors with the same surname, or books with the same call number, for example).
  • Journal search will let you search for a specific journal (the complete journal, not individual articles) by title, or search for journals by category

Check out the Your Results tab of this guide to see how to get hold of the books, articles, etc. you find, and how to request an item.

Remember to check out the Search Tips to get the most from your search, and Save your Searches and Results to come back to your work later.
