WATCH OUT!!!

In %v/v:

As a liquid is being added to a fixed volume of another liquid, BOTH contribute to the final volume


In %w/w:

As a solid is being added to a fixed weight of a liquid/semi-solid/solid, BOTH contribute to the final weight of mixture

Percentage strength

There are THREE different ways to express percentage strength:

  1. Percentage weight-in-volume (%w/v)
  2. Percentage weight-in-weight (%w/w)
  3. Percentage volume-in-volume (%v/v)

%w/v

The number of grams of active in 100 millilitres of mixture

Used when a solid is being added to a liquid

%v/v

The number of millilitres of active in 100 millilitres of mixture

Used when a liquid is being added to a liquid

%w/w

The number of grams of active in 100 grams of mixture

Used when a solid is being added to a fixed weight of liquid, semi-solid, or solid
