Generally, ratio strength is expressed with the whole number, 1, preceding the colon.
As in other ways of describing concentration in pharmacy, the units used in ratio strengths are grams and millilitres. I.e., if the ratio strength is 1:6w/v, this represents 1 gram of active in 6 millilitres of a liquid preparation.
You will need to be able to translate a ratio strength into a useful “amount per amount” or percentage strength.
