The Museum has a dedicated Aboriginal family history unit that provides confidential and professional genealogy research for Aboriginal people researching their family history. If you would like to access this service, complete a Family History Application form.
Or you can contact the Family History Manager by phone 08 8207 7381 or by email familyhistory@samuseum.sa.gov.au
The Museum also offers an Aboriginal family history guide derived from the genealogies and data cards recorded during anthropological expeditions that took place between 1923-1963. The guide is primarily an index of names – the Name Index and is available as a publication in hardcopy and a downloadable PDF. In addition to the Name Index, each of the original genealogies for South Australia have been reproduced in RootsMagic, a genealogy software that can be made available to family history researchers as an app, or by other means. You can access the guide below.
