Most residential colleges provide some computer access for their students. Some students prefer to have their own computer. Students may access wireless internet services on their lap-top computers at various locations around the university.
A step by step guide to connecting to the 'Eduroam' wireless network at JCU can be found at the 'Getting Connected to Wireless' page on the JCU website, which also provides instructions for iPad and iPhone users.
LearnJCU is the most important site for you to learn to navigate as a JCU student. All the lecture notes, readings, assessment information, tutorial sign-up, submit assignment, grades, discussion forums are on the site. Try out every link and button. You don't have to read the materials, you only need to check out what is there. If you need help with any of the function, find your solution from LearnJCU Student Guides, or contact Infohelp.
For each subject you will be provided a SUBJECT OUTLINE. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you read this as it contains ALL of the information you need for that particular subject. It contains a timetable of all of the lectures, tutorials, practicals and workshops that you are expected to attend for that semester, and outlines all of the assessment that you are required to undertake to successfully complete the subject.
Before you ask any questions, check thoroughly that it has not already been answered in the subject outline. However, if you cannot find out the information that you require, do not be afraid to email your lecturer.
"I found the subject outline extremely useful because I used it as a way to guide my study. I was able to organize my notes as per the outline and study weeks at a time in proper order. It also helped if I thought I was missing a set of notes because I was able to look it up on the subject outline."
