"It is a good way to meet people and take on a role and responsibility.  It’s run by the students for the students and is a good organisation to be a part of."

What Is JCUPSA?

The James Cook University Pharmacy Students' Association is an independent student organization which is run by JCU Pharmacy students, and gives every pharmacy student a chance to participate. As a student organization, the goal of JCUPSA is to enrich student life at JCU by giving students socializing opportunities through fun events such as the annual pharmacy ball and pub crawls, as well as education and networking opportunities.

Additional benefits of JCUPSA membership include membership with the National Australian Pharmacy Students Association (NAPSA), and other benefits provided by external sponsors and affiliates such as the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, the Pharmacy Society of Australia, and the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia. JCUPSA also handles book orders each year offering discounted prices for its members. Although JCUPSA is tailored for life at JCU, we are an organization committed to providing all of the benefits available to Pharmacy Students across Australia.

The JCUPSA office can be found in the Pharmacy & Medical Research Building (47-007).  Entry is via the student entrance. Emails with office hours are sent out periodically when use of the office is required.

Why Join?

There are a number of benefits that we offer and events that we hold for all students but at a less expensive cost to our valued members.  These include:

  • Annual Pharmacy Ball
  • Pharmers on the Grass: Annual social for all university students facilitated by JCUPSA
  • Trivia Nights
  • Pub Crawl
  • NAPSA congress
  • Pharmacy Shirts and other merchandise
  • Education sessions: First Aid and CPR courses, wound care courses and Blackmores Complementary Medicines courses run each year
  • Pharmacy Textbooks

At the beginning of every year, JCUPSA holds a membership drive and meet and greet for all first year students.  We then get into the swing of things with Textbook orders.  We provide subsidized text books to our members for Pharmacy Specific Subjects and also have a range of second hand text books available for all subjects.

Ordering is easy: Fill out the form you receive and come up to the office when it is attended and place your order with full payment.  The books take about a month to arrive but you will be set for at least the year!
