ALMA Mobile

ALMA Mobile

Purpose

  • To be able to download, set up, and use the ALMA app on a device

ALMA Role

  • Access to the library environment link

Responsibility

  • All frontline staff

  • Click Save. (You only need to do this when you download and set up the app it will automatically fill the environment as long as you don’t delete the app)
  • On the next screen choose Sign in with OpenID Connect

  • sign in with your SSO login

  • Please note that the iPad/tablet and phone apps look different once you log in.
  • Open ALMA Mobile

  • Set your location, in the top left hand corner. Should be [your campus] - Circulation desk

  • ALMA mobile gives your two options to choose from
    • Scan In Items – Check in items or restore item information 
    • Pick From Shelf – Anything that has a request on it, e.g. Physical holds or Digitization requests

It is preferable that you please use the full computer version ALMA instead of this page, as it will provide more details about the item. 

Pick from shelf list

  • Follow the steps in the Using the app: procedure to sign into the app.

  • When you select Pick from Shelf it will bring up a list of items that need to be collected from the shelves

  • Click Filter Results on the top left hand corner of the screen and under Request Type, filter it by either;
    • Physical Requests ← this is the main one that should be used.

* If you need to delete a filter you can drag across on it under the Filter Results it will give you the option to delete it *

  • Once you have found the items, check them in and either;
    • Place them on the Holds shelf
    • Send them to Townsville/ Cairns
    • Place them in the Off Campus tray (or Townsville Loans tray in Townsville)
    • Place them in the Document Copy trays (if you aren’t able to scan straight away)

Scan in items:

  • When you select Scan In Items it will give you the option to;
    • Scan In (Check In)
    • Restore (When you want to return an item to its permanent location)
  • Select the gear on the right hand side make sure all option are selected for both Scan In and Restore

  • This will make sure that books on request are:
    • placed on the hold shelf,
    • Hold notices are automatically sent
    • And it will register which books are going back on the General shelf
  • Select Scan In and then select the camera icon at the bottom of your screen
  • Make sure that red line covers the whole barcode and that it is within the green box.

  • Once it has scanned the items it will tell you where it;
    • Needs to be sent e.g Cairns/ Townsville
    • If it needs to be put on the Holds shelf
    • Or if it can be put back in the general collection

  • Once you have scanned it in if it is on the Pick from Shelf list it will come off that list.

To Restore an Item

  • To restore and Item to send it back to its permanent location open the camera on the bottom of the page and scan the item’s barcode

  • It will tell you where it needs to be returned to, e.g. Townsville, Cairns
  • If there are requests on the item it will block you from sending it back, you will need to override the request by dragging on the item title and selecting Confirm Restore.
