Guide to citing & referencing in this author, date style for JCU students

Are you sure you should be citing the whole book?

 

Are you sure you should be citing the whole book, and not a chapter in the book? Check the page on Books and book chapters.

The format of a citation varies with the number of authors of the work, ensure you check the formatting is correct for the number of authors of the resources you are citing.

Book - Print

Format:

Author, AA, Author, BB & Author, CC year of publication, Title: subtitle, Edition, Publisher, Place of publication.

Example:

Gilbert, R & Gilbert, P 1998, Masculinity goes to school, Allen & Unwin, St. Leonards, N.S.W.

Polit, D & Beck, CT 2008, Nursing research: generating and assessing evidence for nursing practice, 8th edn, Wolters Kluwer, Philadelphia.

In-text citation:

In their conclusion, Gilbert and Gilbert (2010, p. 10) point out ...

Some have argued (Gilbert & Gilbert 2010) that this is not ...

According to Polit and Beck (2008) the use of this process leads to greater accuracy.

The names of all authors should be provided in the reference list.

Book - Electronic

 

As for book, only with DOI and URL details, if available

Format:

Author, AA year of publication, Title: subtitle, Edition, Publisher, Place of publication, viewed Date Month Year, DOI:XX.XXX or <URL>.

Example:

Kamal, AA 2010, 1000 solved problems in modern physics, Springer, Berlin, viewed 3 April 2017, DOI:10.1007/978-3-642-04333-8.

or

Kamal, AA 2010, 1000 solved problems in modern physics, Springer, Berlin, viewed 3 April 2017, <http://www.springer.com/br/book/9783642119422>.

In-text citation:

As Kamal (2010) states...  

"The overall objective is to solve the main issue" (Kamal 2010, p. 123)...

The names of all authors should be provided in the reference list.
