Guide to citing & referencing in this author, date style for JCU students

Newspaper, magazine article - online

 For an article retrieved from a database, state when the article was viewed and give the URL of the source.  Enclose URL in < >.

Format:

Author(s) of article, initials Year of publication, ‘Title of article’, Title of newspaper, Day month, viewed Day Month, Year, <URL>.

Example:

Bearak, M 2017, ‘Ghana's president plagiarises Bill Clinton, George W. Bush word for word in his inauguration speech’, The Sydney Morning Herald, 9 January, viewed 9 January, 2017, <http://www.smh.com.au/world/ghanas-president-plagiarises-bill-clinton-george-w-bush-word-for-word-in-his-inauguration-speech-20170108-gtnxss.html>.

In-text citation:

Bearak (2017) reported that...

… the speech used phrases that were identical to those of two presidents (Bearak, 2017).  

 

Newspaper, magazine article - print

 Format:

Author(s) of article, initials Year of publication, ‘Title of article’, Title of newspaper, Day month, Page number(s).

Example:

Rooney, K 2016, ‘Job hunt becoming too much for some’, Townsville Bulletin, 25 November, p. 4.

In-text citation:

Rooney (2016) reported that the current jobless rate is the lowest since ...

... however, some business reported an increase in taking on new staff (Rooney 2016).
