SYNTAX

 

Definition (formal)

Fragments are groups of words that form part of a sentence but not a complete sentence.

Definitions (informal)

Fragment: A bit of a sentence.

Example

For example, an essay may incorrectly present the following fragment as a full sentence.

How it affects teachers.

It should be written as a complete sentence.  For example:

The essay explores how it affects teachers.
