EndNote: Adding references to EndNote

There are a number of ways to add references to your EndNote Library.

  1. Use the Direct export option available from most library databases, including One Search and Google Scholar.
If you have a list of references and want to add them quickly, search for the title of the item in Google Scholar and download the record.
  2. Use the Filter import option if there is no direct export option available.  This is available for databases like The Cochrane Library and Trove.
You can also import PDF documents already saved on your computer and the PDF has a DOI that can be read by EndNote. If it does not work, the only field that will be filled will be the title of the file surrounded by pointed brackets. Delete the record and download the reference using Direct Export from Google Scholar.
  3. Use the Manual entry option if you cannot export the reference. You need to use this option to add web pages or for references you cannot find online.
